About FOCAS

Back in the early 1980s, a group of passionate fishermen decided to use their love for fishing to spread the message of Christ. They founded the Fellowship of Christian Anglers Society, and their mission was to use fishing as a way to reach out to those who haven’t heard the Gospel and to strengthen the bond between Christians.

Our chapter is based in Western Kentucky, originating in Cadiz, Trigg County. We’re located near Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake. FOCAS of Cadiz started in February 2003 with just five members, but we’ve grown a lot since then. We’re a group of people who love fishing and who want to use that love to share the Gospel.

We organize family events, a Kids’ derby, we celebrate our Church Leaders, and offer a few friendly competitions, sometimes with rules a little different than your normal bass tournament. Through all of these activities, we want to show people the joy of fishing and the love of Christ. We’re not just a bass club; we’re a community that wants to meet new people, strengthen our faith, and share the Gospel. We hope to represent Christ in a way that pleases God.

What I like about FOCAS is not just the fishing, but the fellowship. We have a great group of Christian men that not only love fishing but care about their fellow man and showing Christ to others. They are fun to be around and personally they make my Christian walk easier the more I'm around them.

FOCAS is a great group of people that love to fish but puts Jesus first. I really enjoy fishing with Godly men in this club. Everyone is always helpful with anything, not just fishing but problems in life as well. I like how FOCAS takes fishing and uses it with spreading God’s word.

As a pastor myself I’ve been involved in other clubs with good guys, but I really like FOCAS because we start every tournament with a devotion and prayer.  We also end every weigh in with prayer. We “FOCAS" on Jesus first then get to enjoy what God has put before us as a good group of Christian fishermen.

FOCAS is a collection of sinners that fall short of the glory of God each and everyday, but this organization provides an opportunity to be better Christians through fellowship, spreading God's Word through testimonies and devotionals and having prayer time at each of our events.   Check out what a few of our members say that FOCAS means to them....

As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen.  "Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men.” Matt 4:18-19

FOCAS CORE BELIEFS

We believe that there is one eternal God, existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

We believe the Bible to be the inspired, authoritative Word of God.

We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.

We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful men, acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and regeneration by the Holy Spirit are absolutely essential.

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose in-dwelling the Christian is enabled to live a Godly life.

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; either they are saved unto the resurrection of life or they are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.   We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.

We believe that God ordained the family as the basic unit of our society and that through the spiritual church family we can actively demonstrate the love of God to one another.
